Radisson, WI – On July 28, 2024, at 11:59a, Sawyer County deputies, along with Sawyer County EMS and the Exeland and Radisson Fire Departments, responded to an airplane crash near the intersection of Weirgor Road and Brisko Road in the Town of Radisson.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered that a single-engine Piper Malibu, piloted by Matthew J. Pobloske, 58, of Tucson, Arizona, had experienced engine trouble and a total loss of power while en route to the Hayward area. With no airports nearby, Pobloske was forced to make an emergency landing in a farm field just east of Weirgor Road.

Remarkably, Pobloske, the sole occupant of the aircraft, walked away from the crash without injuries. However, the plane sustained extensive damage, according to the Sawyer County Sheriff's Office.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Sawyer County Sheriff Doug Mrotek praised the prompt response of the emergency services and expressed relief that no injuries occurred in the incident.
