2023 Polk County Land And Water Resources Stewardship Award Winners Announced

BALSAM LAKE, WI - The third annual Land and Water stewardship awards were recently presented at the December 20th, 2023, Environmental Services Committee meeting in Balsam Lake, WI.

In 2021, the Polk County Land and Water Resources Department developed a Stewardship Award program in appreciation of the service and commitment that individuals in the community have taken to advance the Land and Water Resources Departments mission to preserve, protect, and enhance Polk County’s natural resources.

The Stewardship Award is given to a person, or a group, that has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort to the improvement and protection of soil and water resources in Polk County, WI.

The 2023 stewardship award winner in the Land Category was Jeanne Alling, and the 2023 stewardship award winners in the Water Category were John Suzukida, Diane and Tom Schmidt, and MarJean and William Sieberer.

Jeanne Alling was awarded the Land Stewardship award for her dedication to sharing Land and Water Resources Department programming, including her promotion of the poster and speaking contest and the donation and preparation of lunches for the annual Tri-County Soil Judging Contest.

John Suzukida, Diane and Tom Schmidt, and MarJean and William Sieberer received the Water Stewardship award for their dedication to monitoring Long Lake in Centuria monthly for aquatic invasive species through the Citizen Lake Monitoring Network.

Polk County is proud to recognize the significant time, service, and commitment of these individuals toward supporting natural resource protection efforts to make our County the best place to live, work, and play.
